Dr Mubashar Hasan, a teacher of North South University, returned to his Banasree home in the city early Friday, 44 days after he had gone missing from Agargaon area, reports UNB.
Jahangir Kabir Khan, inspector (investigation) of Khilgaon Police Station, said the victim's father Motaher Hossain informed them that his son returned home around 1:00am.
During an interview with the journalists Friday morning, Mubashar said, "the abductors pushed me into a microbus last night. However, I can't recall the exact time. When the vehicle reached Airport area, they brought me out and asked me to leave the place. They also threatened to kill me, if I try to look back."
"Later, I hired a CNG-run auto rickshaw and called my father using the mobile phone set of the autorickshaw driver. I told my father to wait in front of my house with Tk 500 for the CNG fare. Then I reached home and my father paid the CNG," Mubashar added.
When asked how he was abducted, the NSU teacher said, "On that day I was returning home from UNDP office riding a private car of Uber. When I reached Begum Rokeya Sarani, a group of people waylaid the car and asked me to get off the vehicle saying it was a stolen car."
"Then I got off the car and was looking for another vehicle. Suddenly, someone rubbed an ointment in my eyes from behind and forcibly pushed me into a microbus. Then they held something to my nose and I lost sense," he went on.
"When I got back my sense, I discovered myself in a locked room and my hands were tied with a rope. There was a dirty quilt in the room and the windows were locked from outside. I spent the entire period in that room. There was another room adjacent to it. Sometimes I heard five-six people talking among themselves," Mubashar added.
Replying to a query, the NSU teacher said the abductors kept him confined in a dark room. "I have been free after a long time," he added.
When asked whether the abductors demanded ransom, Mubashar said, "I don't know why they abducted me. However, one day they sought money from me and I gave them Tk 27,000 in cash which I kept in my wallet."
"The abductors may have not been sure about my profile. They were confused about whether they would kill me or not," he said.
Dr Mubashar Hasan, an assistant professor at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the North South University, went missing on November 7 after he came out from a meeting of A2i project at IDB Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area.
Later, his father filed a general diary (GD) with the Khilgaon Police Station.
