Mobile internet services have been restored in the country after a 10-day suspension.
Around 3pm on Sunday, users of Robi, Grameenphone, Banglalink and Teletalk in Dhaka reported regaining access to the internet on their phones.
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak had earlier announced at a briefing that the government planned to restore mobile internet services around 3pm.
He made the announcement after meeting with mobile phone operators at the BTRC Bhaban in Dhaka.
He also mentioned that 5GB of free internet would be provided to all users for three days once the connection was restored as compensation. However, many users alleged that they have not received 5GB.
Even after 5GB compensatory data, they think it is not justified 5GB with three days' validity while large volume users purchased large volume data and could not use that in last 10 days. "I purchased 25 GB, of which 10 GB was unused and the package expired," Monirul Islam, a banker told The Financial Express.
Regarding access to the social media platforms, the state minister stated that BTRC has sent letters to the authorities of the platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube.
"Representatives of these social media need to come to Dhaka by July 31 to give explanations. We will make a decision following discussion with them," he added.
Internet connectivity across Bangladesh was disrupted for five consecutive days, from the night of July 17 to late July 23. Broadband internet services have been partially restored since July 23.
