Moeen lauds army's role at this crucial time of nation

CHITTAGONG, June 20 (UNB): Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed Wednesday appreciated the role of army at the present crucial moment of the nation and called upon them to stay ready even for the supreme sacrifice to safeguard the country's independence and sovereignty.
"Bangladesh army is now extending their cooperation to the government and different national organisations in curbing corruption, establishing democracy and holding free, fair and meaningful national election," he said.
The army chief made the remarks while attending the President's Parade organised at the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) parade ground at Bhatiary on the occasion of the passing out of 54 BMA cadets.
Among them, 44 cadets, including four female ones, were from the 56th BMA long course while 10 belong to the 27th BMA Special Course.
In his speech, the army chief said the army personnel, also children of this country, are the inseparable part of the country's citizens. "They're equal partners of every crisis and every happiness of the citizens," he added.
General Ahmed said the army is also playing a glorious role in maintaining the tradition of democracy of the country.
He further said Bangladesh Army is appreciated globally for their role in maintaining peace and security all over the world. "We've to go ahead elevating the position," he added.
Addressing the cadets, who passed out the BMA courses, the army chief said, "The sacred responsibility of safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty is imposed on them from this day."
He also advised them to uphold Bangladesh's image, honour and glorious tradition by dint of firmness of personal character and professional efficiency and skill.
Referring to the female officers, the Chief of Army Staff said they have to prove themselves by discharging duties in future with efficiency, competence and hard work that their contributions to the army is no less in any consideration.
He recalled the contributions of the army personnel martyred during the War of Liberation in 1971 and said, "The newly commissioned officers should follow the path of their predecessors."
The army chief reviewed the smartly turned-out parade and took salute as the chief guest.
