The government has no plan to refund the money collected from different business houses during the past caretaker government (CG) regime, said Finance Minister AMA Muhith Wednesday.
"It is not under consideration of the government," he said after a meeting with the Chittagong stocks delegation.
The money has gone to the public exchequer, and budgetary allocation is needed to refund the money, he explained. "It is collected and deposited with the consolidation fund," he added.
When asked why the finance ministry has collected the list of the businessmen who deposited the money, he said the ministry should have information about them.
Sixteen firms and individuals deposited over Tk 12 billion to the public exchequer, allegedly under pressure from the caretaker government during 2007-08.
It is alleged that the government collected the money without following proper procedure, rather it was collected to punish the corruption suspects. The government is under pressure from the businessmen, many of whom have very good connection.
