Moon sighting body meets today

The National Moon Sighting Committee will sit on Tuesday to fix the date of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, report agencies.
Eid al-Fitr will depend on the sighting of the Shawwal moon. If the crescent moon is visible today evening, 2024, celebrations will commence Wednesday. However, Eid will be observed Thursday if the moon isn't sighted.
The meeting will be held in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation's Baitul Mukarram office in the capital around 6:30 pm after Maghrib prayers, said a press release of Islamic Foudnation on Monday
Religious Affairs Minister Faridul Haque Khan will preside over the meeting.
People have been requested to inform the committee through the following phone and fax numbers if they see the Shawwal moon anywhere in Bangladesh sky.
The phone numbers are 02-223381725, 02-41050912, 02-41050916, and 02-41050917 and the fax numbers are- 02-223383397 and 02-9555951.
Meanwhile, the main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at 8:30am at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises in the capital on the Eid day.
However, the jamaat will be held at Baitul Mukarram national mosque at 9am in case of inclement weather.
This year, a total of 35,000 Muslims will offer Eid prayers at the Eidgah maidan at the main pandal while many others will offer prayers outside it, said a press release.
Khatib of Baitul Mukarram national mosque Hafez Maulana Mufti Mohammad Ruhul Amin Imam and Muazzin Quari Habibur Rahman will conduct the Eid prayers.
