The government has set a target of recruiting 0.5 million employees over the next five years to fill vacancies in public administration.
To this effect, the government has adopted short-term (180 days), medium-term (one year) and long-term (five years) action plans.
Recruitment to fill up 2,879 vacant positions is already underway under the 180-day programme as part of a structured roadmap, aimed at strengthening service delivery and administrative efficiency.
These were revealed at the weekly press briefing by the information adviser to the prime minister Zahed Ur Rahman at the information ministry in the secretariat on Tuesday.
He told the media that the government would take a strong stance against misinformation and disinformation in the media and any photocards created using false information would not be allowed.
The adviser said Bangladesh extended humanitarian assistance to Iran by providing emergency medical supplies, while 174 Bangladeshi nationals detained in Libya have been repatriated through coordinated efforts.
The health sector continues its nationwide measles-rubella vaccination campaign, with nearly 9.4 million children inoculated as of April 27.
Law enforcement agencies have stepped up anti-crime operations, recovering large quantities of illegal arms and narcotics, the press briefing was told.
More than 0.68 million pieces of yaba tablets were seized and over 35 individuals arrested, with authorities reporting progress in curbing border-related crimes.
The finance ministry held pre-budget consultations with stakeholders to gather input on policy priorities and fiscal direction ahead of the upcoming national budget.

In the transport sector, fares for diesel-run vehicles have been slightly increased, while major infrastructure projects continue to progress steadily, the press conference was told.
The agriculture ministry has initiated the development of a comprehensive farmer database, which is expected to include around 0.8 million farmers in order to improve service delivery and policy support.
Law enforcement agencies recovered a significant amount of illegally stored fuel during recent drives, including diesel, octane and petrol, as part of efforts to curb hoarding and illegal trading.
Citing official data, the adviser said mobile courts conducted 12,513 drives between March 3 and April 26, filing 4,285 cases and imposing fines amounting to over Tk 18.9 million.
During the same period, authorities recovered more than 0.54 million litres of diesel, along with substantial quantities of other fuels, including octane and petrol.
The adviser said the ongoing enforcement drives aim to stabilise the fuel market, prevent illegal stockpiling and ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers.
He said coordinated efforts by various ministries are contributing positively to economic growth, infrastructure development and overall public welfare.
