More power-saving steps announced

September 10, 2009 00:00:00

The government announced various electricity-saving measures as the nagging power crunch did not change much despite steps taken earlier, including the daylight-saving time. Under the latest plan, the government decided to conduct campaigns to encourage people to use solar energy, concentrated fluorescent lamp (CFL) and electronic ballast. The austerity measures also include not to use air-conditioner in government, semi-government and autonomous bodies' offices for at least one hour a day, working at daylight (where possible) without switching on lights, not to take the air-conditioner below 24 degrees Celsius and not to use electric heater for cooking. — UNB
