Muggers gun down one, loot Tk 1.0m in city

Muggers gunned down manager of a business establishment and took away Tk 1.0 million from his possession in the capital's Banghsal police station area Tuesday, police said.
Another employee of the business house also received bullet injuries during the shooting incident that took place at about 4:00pm in the city's busy English Road, causing panic among the traders and businessmen there.
Witnesses said unknown assailants, numbering four to five, intercepted the way of Rubel (22), manager of Iqbal Enterprise that is
housed at 38, Nazira Bazar of the Old Dhaka and its employee Nasir Gazi (36) while they were returning after withdrawing Tk 1.0 million from Jamuna Bank branch at North South Road.
The muggers started firing at them as they refused to hand over the bag containing the amount, leaving Rubel dead on the spot. Rubel hailed from Baufal of Patuakhali district.
Critically injured Nasir was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
However, the criminals safely escaped the place of occurrence with the looted money.
Sub-inspector of Banghsal Police Station Sirajul Islam said they are investigating into the matter.
However, traders and businessmen in the commercial area condemned the incident and demanded immediate action against the criminals.
They also threatened movement if the law-enforcement agencies failed to provide security in the area where thousands of small and medium level business establishments are located.
