Munshiganj bus plunge claims 11 lives

MUNSHIGANJ, Jun 7 (UNB): At least eleven people were killed and 15 more feared dead when a bus carrying 53 passengers plunged into a water-filled ditch at Shanbari in Srinagar Upazila Sunday midnight.
Police said a Barguna-bound bus from Chittagong rammed into a motorbike killing its two riders on the spot and then plunged into the ditch at about 11:45pm after the driver lost control of his vehicle.
The two motorbike riders killed in the accident were identified as Srinagar thana-unit Chhatra League President Zakirul Islam Kushum (27) and his associate Ripon (25).
Shortly after the bus plunge, local people recovered nine bodies and 16 injured passengers from the bus that was resting in 5 feet of water.
The injured were admitted to local hospitals.
The police apprehended that the death toll in the bus plunge might rise to 25 as some passengers were trapped in the wrecked bus.
The fire fighters and divers were continuing the salvation operation until the filing of this report at 2:30am Monday.
