Syed Nasim Manzur, managing director of Apex Footwear Limited, has been elected president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) for 2015.
The committee members unanimously elected him the MCCI president at its first meeting on November 18. It was confirmed at the 110th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of MCCI on Tuesday.
Besides, Anis A Khan, managing director and CEO of Mutual Trust Bank Ltd (MTB), has been re-elected vice-president of MCCI.
Other members of the committee are (in alphabetical order) Syed Tareque Md Ali, managing director of Kushtia Cold Storage Ltd, M Anis Ud Dowla, chairman of Advanced Chemical Industries Ltd, Tabith M Awal, managing director of Kay & Que (Bangladesh) Ltd, Akhter Matin Chaudhury, FCA, chairman and managing director of Nuvista Pharma Ltd, Simeen Hossain, managing director and CEO of Eskayef Bangladesh Ltd, Md Saiful Islam, managing director of Picard Bangladesh Ltd, Nihad Kabir, senior partner of Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed & Associates, Habibullah N Karim, managing director of Technohaven Company Ltd, Adeeb H Khan, FCA, senior partner of Rahman Rahman Huq, Kamran T Rahman, managing director of Pubali Jute Mills Ltd, and Mamun Rashid, vice chairman of BD Venture Ltd.
Mr Nasim Manzur also has investments in Apex Tannery Ltd, Apex Pharma Ltd and Apex Investments Ltd as well as in joint-venture companies - Blue Ocean Footwear Ltd, Grey Advertising Bangladesh Ltd and Quantum Consumer Solutions Ltd.
Currently, he is member of the boards of Pioneer Insurance Ltd, Guardian Life Insurance Co, International Publications Ltd, Society for Promotion of Bangladesh Art and Friendship, and Savar Golf Club, and an independent director of the board of Western Marine Shipyard Ltd.
He is also the president of Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh.
Mr Anis A Khan, prior to joining MTB, was the managing director and CEO of IDLC Finance Ltd. He earlier served in Grindlays Bank Ltd, ANZ Grindlays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank.
He is the chairman of Primary Dealers Bangladesh Ltd, and vice chairman of the board of governors, Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB). He is also a member of the board of governors of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM).
