FE REPORT | January 20, 2026 00:00:00

The interim government has decided put some assets belonging to the Nassa Group to pay due wages and service benefits to the corporate staff.

The selloff decision has been made "upon obtaining an order from the honourable court", a spokesman for the CA Office said Monday, quoting Brigadier-General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

He earlier chaired the 15th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on "Review of the Labour and Business Situation of the Industrial Establishments at Beximco Industrial Park".

The decision-making meeting was held in the meeting room of the Ministry of Labour and Employment at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.

The adviser said that, through an administrator appointed by the court, shares of Nassa Group had already been sold and Tk 760 million paid to its workers. In addition, following directives from Bangladesh Bank, Nassa Group has already made down payment to eight banks.

"Necessary measures will be taken, in line with court directives, to pay the remaining down payments to 15 banks as well as the outstanding dues of the workers by selling some of Nassa Group's assets through open competitive bidding," he was quoted as saying.

Those present at the meeting included the Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, a Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, the Additional Inspector-General of the Industrial Police, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Finance Division and the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments.

Also in attendance were the court-appointed administrator for Nassa Group, other representatives of the group, and officials from various commercial banks.

The corporate house in peril as its chief has been behind bars following the 2024 mass uprising for his role during the fallen regime of Awami League.
