NBR honours 65 VAT officials with cash rewards

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has hounoured nearly 65 Value Added Tax (VAT) officials with cash rewards totalling Tk 15 million for their outstanding performance in detecting tax evasion of different businesses and companies.
First secretary of VAT (policy) Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, who secured top position among the officials, will receive Tk 2.7 million as incentive for uncovering evasion of VAT.
Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, a former additional
commissioner of VAT and now deputy secretary in the ministry of establishment, has been placed in the second position. He will receive Tk 1.7 million for spotting VAT evasion.
Mohammad Enamul Huq, first secretary (VAT implementation) is in the third position. He will receive Tk 1.6 million for unearthing VAT evasion of businesses.
The government has given the incentives to encourage tax officials to detect VAT evasion by the businesses, officials said.
"Those officials have realised a big amount of tax revenue from large business houses. It was impossible for the government to get the money without personal initiatives of the VAT officials," a NBR official said.
Abdul Mannan Patwari, member (VAT), Tasmina Hossain joint commissiner, Shamim Ara begum additional commissioner, commissioners Barrister Jahangir Hossain and Enayat Hossain will, among others, receive the incentives for their outstanding performances.
