New cabinet members assume office with confidence they can overcome any pressure that might emerge from different fronts during their effort to carry forward the country's development journey.

They mean challenges that may come from the external and internal fronts as well as managing the price situation and inflation, falling prices of local currency BDT against the US dollar and other socioeconomic and political issues, according to agencies and FE Correspondents.

The newly appointed ministers and state ministers expressed their resolve in an almost similar tone while talking separately to newsmen at Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday, the first day at office after the forming of the Sheikh Hasina-led cabinet following the January 7 national election.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that this government is capable and courageous enough to overcome any sorts of conspiracy or pressure - be it foreign or local.

"We have enough capacity and courage to overcome such pressures," he said. "There are conspiracies to harm the economy. We've the courage to overcome it too."

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said the government would work in collaboration with all countries despite having their different narratives and opinions while Dhaka felt no pressure following the elections.

"We are not feeling any pressure. There were many pressures, deep and medium, over the election. But the election was held overcoming all pressures. So, we never feel any pressure," he added.

While addressing the top officials at different offices under his ministry, Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali sought their cooperation in facing any upcoming challenges successfully and said, "There will be setbacks … we'll have to overcome those."

Replying to a question from the press, he said he will definitely try to do something about the possible skyrocketing prices of commodities during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan (March).

Talking about the price situation, State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam (Titu) categorically said there will be no syndication in commodities business in Bangladesh.
