Bumper mango production likely
RAJSHAHI, April 13: Production of mango is expected to increase in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts during the forthcoming harvesting season. Dr Sharof Uddin, Scientific Officer of Regional Horticulture Research Station, said huge flowering and then fruits growing gave a signal of excellent production of the most popular fruit in the region this season, if the climatic condition remained favourable until the harvesting. Though there were two storms and rain with hailstorm in the recent past, there was no major damage to young mangoes anywhere in the districts. Even the Meteorological department in Rajshahi has no forecast of any storm and windy weather during the current summer. All these symptoms have been seen as a good omen for mango production by the agriculturists this year. There are about 3.0 million mango trees of different ages and varieties on some 32,816 hectares in the region.— BSS
