BGB seized Tk 12.17b smuggled goods in 2017
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods and illegal drugs worth about Tk 12.17 billion (1217.55 crore) from different borders across the country in the last one year. Members of the paramilitary force seized a huge quantity of contraband such as 0.25 million pieces of shari, 50,590 three pieces, 47,013-meter clothes and 0.33 million bottles of phensidyl, and 16,357 kilograms of cannabis, said an official release of BGB. BGB personnel arrested 2,689 persons on charges of drug peddling and 1,114 others for trespassing during the period. — BSS
Mystery shrouds death of four in Cox's Bazar
COX'S BAZAR, Jan 17: Four members of a family were found dead in their residence at Goledighirpar in Cox's Bazar municipality on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Suman Chowdhury, 40, a cosmetics shop owner of the area, his wife Baby Chowdhury and their two daughters - Abantika Chowdhury, 5, and Jhoti Chowdhury, 3. Raj Bijhari, Suman's neighbour, said that finding no response from the house, the neighbours broke the door in the evening and found all four dead in the house. The body of Suman was found hanging while those of his wife and two daughters were found lying on the floor. — UNB
