Bangladesh has been elected a member of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth from the Asian region for a two-year term effective from July 2018. Bangladesh was elected on a consensus basis in a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth held at the Commonwealth Secretariat last week, foreign ministry said on Sunday. — UNB

Cheering turns deadly for minor Argentine fan

FENI, July 01: A minor boy was killed as a pick-up ran over him at Tulatoli in Sonagazi upazila on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Rahat Russel, 10, son of Obaidul Haq of Swarajpur village in the upazila. Sonagazi police said the fans of Argentina football team brought out a rally with 200 motorbikes and 10-12 pick-up vans ahead of their team's football match against France. — UNB

Motorcyclist succumbs to injuries

A young motor-cyclist was killed in a road accident on the capital's Kalshi flyover on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Sejan Shahriar Sourov, 28, hailing from Thakurgaon district. A Boshumoti Paribahan bus first hit him while he was crossing the flyover by his motor bike at around 9:30 am, said police sources. Later, locals rushed him to Kurmitola General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead at about 11:30 am. — FE Report
