840mw more power from India likely

Bangladesh is likely to import another 840 megawatt of electricity from India -- 340 MWs from Triupura and 500 MWs from West Bengal. Bangladesh's interest in the new bulk import of electricity in addition to the current import of 660 MWs was positively discussed in the Bangladesh - India joint steering committee (JSC) meeting in Dhaka Thursday. According to Power Division statement on the meeting outcome, the two sides discussed vast areas of cooperation in the power sector and expressed satisfaction on the progress in implementation of the 1320-MW Rampal coal-fired power-plant project. The last joint steering-committee meeting was held in New Delhi. — UNB

Facebook, Google, Twitter to testify in Russia link probe

Executives from Facebook, Google and Twitter have been asked to testify to the US Congress in coming weeks as lawmakers probe Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 US elections, committee sources said on Wednesday. A Senate aide said executives from the three firms had been asked by the Senate Intelligence Committee to appear at a public hearing on Nov 1. Representatives for Facebook and Google confirmed they had received invitations from the Senate committee but did not say whether the companies would attend. Twitter did not immediately respond to requests for comment. — Reuters
