No HSC exams this year

The government has decided not to hold this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Instead, the students will be graded on the basis of the results of their Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, Education Minister Dipu Moni said at a virtual press briefing on Wednesday.
After the assessment, the results of the HSC examinations will be published in December, she said.
An expert committee has already been formed to address complex issues during the grading process for about 1.4 million students, she added.
The university admission process for these students would begin by February next year, said the minister.
She also mentioned that some other countries made similar decisions regarding public exams to ensure protection of students from the coronavirus infections.
Earlier, the education ministry extended the closure of all educational institutions until October 31, citing no significant development in the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
On March 16, the government closed all educational institutions to check the spread of the deadly virus. No classes have been held since then.
