Noted journalist Obaidul Haque passes away

Renowned journalist Obaidul Haque died of old-age complications in the city Saturday. He was 96, reports UNB.
Haque had been hospitalised for the last couple of days and returned home at 12:30pm on the same day, ahead of holy Eid-ul-Fitr. He died in his sleep at about 4:45pm.
The qulkhwani for Obaidul Haque will be held at Banani Jame-e-Mosque after Asr prayers Friday (October 19).
Relatives, friends and well-wishers have been requested to attend the qulkhwani and pray for his eternal peace.
Born in 1911 in Feni, Haque joined the Bangladesh Observer in 1951.
He was the editor of the Observer for a long time until he left the newspaper in 1984 and joined the now-defunct Daily News. After the closure of the Daily News, he used to write newspaper columns.
He left behind his wife, four sons, three daughters and a host of admirers and well-wishers to mourn his death.
His namaj-e-janaza was held at Banani mosque after Esha prayers before his burial at Banani graveyard Saturday night.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed Saturday expressed deep shock at the death of journalist Obaidul Haque.
In a condolence message, Iajuddin said the field of journalism suffered an irreparable loss at the death of Haque.
Fakhruddin Ahmed, in his message, said, "Obaidul Haque was a pioneer in the domain of journalism in the country and his contribution will ever be remembered."
In another message, Information Adviser Mainul Hosein said the country lost an experienced journalist at the death of Obaidul Haque.
They also prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
