Brushing aside the ruling party's allegation that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has made treasonable remarks about joint forces' drive in Satkhira, the party claimed on Wednesday that Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam spread falsehood over it, reports UNB.
"There's nothing seditious in the remarks of Desh Netri Khaleda Zia. This doesn't suit the stature of a leader like Syed Ashraf to confuse people by making such a false comment," said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Ashraful Islam, also the LGRD Minister, at a press conference at the party president's Dhanmondi political office on Tuesday urged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to apologise to the nation in 24 hours for her remarks over the operation by joint forces in Satkhira.
"Khaleda must apologise to the nation for her remarks over the joint forces' operation in Satkhira involving a neighbouring country, or else, the government will take appropriate steps," the AL spokesperson said.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, in her first address in a public rally at city's Suhrawardy Udyan after the 10th parliamentary polls, said on Monday there are doubts in public minds as to who are involved in the joint forces' operation in Satkhira.
