CHATTOGRAM, Sept 02: Three workers of a private container depot (Off Dock) were killed and three others injured critically in an oil tank explosion of a lorry in the port city today (Wednesday).
The victims were identified as Mohammed Arman, Moktar Ahamod and Shah Newaj. They were lorry driver, welding mechanic and depot worker respectively.
According to sources, the oil tank of the lorry was leaked at the Incontrade Container Depot, a private Off Dock under the Chittagong port.
Mechanic Moktar was welding the leak around 1:00 pmnear ghat number 14 of Karnaphuli River at Patenga.
Suddenlyan explosion took place in the oil tank when he was welding the leak, injuring the people critically, police said.
The victims were rushed to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the duty doctors declared three of them dead. The injured ones were admitted to the burn unit of the CMCH.
Duty officer of CMCH Police Outpost Hamid Ullah said, "The three people were killed on way to the hospital."
