One more case confirmed as four recover

FE REPORT | March 31, 2020 00:00:00

Another person in the country tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, raising the overall tally of infected people to 49 after two days of stagnancy.

On the other hand, four people, including an octogenarian, returned home after recovery during the same period. With them, the total number of recovered individuals stood at 19.

"A woman in her 20's was diagnosed with the virus," said director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora, while revealing the latest statistics in a virtual press briefing on Monday.

She said the IEDCR tested 153 samples in the last 24 hours until Monday noon, and found one confirmed case.

"With the latest victim, the total number of confirmed cases rose to 49, and the death toll remains the same at 5."

In addition to that, four more infected people recovered and returned home. One of the recovered persons was 80 years old, while two others were 70 years old, she mentioned.

"Despite having high blood pressure and diabetes, they recovered, which is a good sign."

Among the four recovered patients, one is a doctor, one is a nurse and another is an 80-year-old person.

The IEDCR director further said they did not find any case of Covid-19 infection people during the previous two days after testing a number of samples.

"It does not mean that we're out of danger. It's a global problem. So, we have to be careful unless the number of infection is brought down to zero."

Requesting people to stay inside houses to curb spread of the outbreak, she called upon all to follow the government's instructions during the crisis, and take proper protection while going out for emergency needs.

Meanwhile, there was an allegation of delayed response from the IEDCR, as a woman, reportedly having coronavirus infection syndromes, died at her Lalmatia residence.

Locals said they kept calling the IEDCR through its hotline to inform the entity about the woman, as no hospital nor any healthcare centre admitted her for treatment.

The woman died at 11:30 pm on Sunday at her home. The IEDCR, however, responded and collected samples of her body before her burial on Monday afternoon.

The IEDCR's comment could not be obtained even after repeated calls.
