As per the Bangla calendar, the first day of the Bangla month of Falgoon falls today. Bengalees love to call the day Pahela Falgoon, a day that stands for youthful mirth, colours --- and romance.
As the day begins, we welcome the season of spring.
Bengalee poets through the ages have invoked their emotions and innermost feelings as they celebrated the day. Side by side, the common people, the young men and women in the urban areas in particular, welcome Pahela Falgoon through myriad types of jubilations.
Like in the previous years, this year too the capital will witness a city bathed in basanti, the colour of spring, with people joining songs, dance and poetry sessions. Clad in their colourful clothes, with flowers strewn with women's hair, people will make the day a different one --- a day that appears as a pleasant break with urban monotony and ennui.
