COLOMBO, March 19(Agencies): Pakistan defeated defending champions Australia by four wickets Saturday to take top spot in World Cup Group A.
The win brought to an end Australia's 34-match unbeaten run at the World Cup, a streak stretching back to the 1999 tournament.
Pakistan won the match in 41 overs losing six wickets. Asad Shafiq scored 46 and Umar Akmal was unbeaten on 44.
Brett Lee got four wickets for Australia conceding 28 runs.
Earlier, Champions Australia were shot out for 176 runs by Pakistan.
