Except in the emergency operation theatres the overall health services at the public hospitals was hampered due to daylong power outage across the country Saturday, physicians said.

For emergency surgical operations, generator back-up continued but the patients suffered in using lifts, transporting medical supplies to the upper floors and for non-availability of some power-driven equipment that are necessary for the patients.

However, resident surgeon of the Plastic and Burn Unit of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Dr Partha Sankar Paul said, "I do not see any problem in our emergency services like operation theatre, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU)."

He said to reduce load on generator-backed power the authorities have cut power supply to some wards.

Dr Abul Kalam Azad of haematology department of the BSMMU (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University) said, "We did not face problems in emergency operation theatres."

When contacted with physicians of other public hospitals, they also said they were not facing trouble in emergency wards due to generator support.

But in other departments the authorities were rationing power to continue supply to the ICC, CCU and operation theatres.
