A petition has been filed with the High Court urging it to ask the government about its failure to ensure deployment of army in the Narayanganj City Corporation polls. The petition came up for consideration of the vacation bench of justices Kamrul Islam Siddique and A K M Jahirul Haque Sunday. However, the court said that the polls have already commenced and that it does not want to intervene now, and urged the petitioners to place the matter before a regular bench after the vacation. Lawyers Redowan Ahmed, Redwan-e-Khuda and Javed Islam
filed the petition.

Govt securities
go online
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Sunday introduced online transactions of treasury bills and bonds, replacing the time-consuming manual system of buying and selling of government securities. A BB directive issued to the managing directors and chief executive officers of all banks said all the primary dealers (PDs) would now be able to buy and sell the government securities through auction, repo and the secondary market. The non-PDs and the non-banking financial institutions could also do the same business online after selecting their own PDs. This system will also allow buyback of government securities, the directive said. - BSS
