Petrobangla's fresh move to raise gas price

December 07, 2008 00:00:00

Petrobangla, in its fresh bid, will seek to raise the gas price in a request to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), officials said, reports UNB.
The country's energy sector watchdog last week turned down the request of raising the gas price by 65 per cent saying it was already making a profit of Tk 2.00 per unit of gas production and sales business.
It, however, said 10-15 per cent rise might be considered to create a special fund for enhancement of gas exploration and production purpose. The fresh move will be made in compliance with the BERC conditions, the officials added.
BERC raised question about the accounting -- income and expenditure -- system of Petrobangla saying it was not clear and transparent. It must be clear and transparent before seeking further rise in price of gas, BERC has asked the Petrobangla.
Petrobangla Chairman Jalal Ahmed said they had started working on justifying gas price rise complying with the BERC conditions.
