Pilot's body found, handed over to relatives

SIRAJGANJ, Oct 31 (bdnews24.com): The body of pilot Kamrul Hassan, killed in a Cessna training aircraft crash Saturday, was handed over to his family members.
Hassan's body was handed over to his uncles Gazi Nasir Uddin and Motahar Hossain around 11.15am Sunday, Chouhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saiful Islam told the news agency.
The body was recovered an hour after divers resumed rescue operation around 6.30am Sunday, he said. The operation was earlier hampered due to strong river currents.
"The aircraft wreckage has also been located and efforts to retrieve it are going on," Islam said.
Rajshahi fire service deputy director Mohammad Mizanur Rahman told bdnews24.com, "The body was lying under 40 feet water and covered with silt." He said that divers were first able locate his hairs and then recovered the silt covered body.
Rescue operations were halted Saturday evening as it grew dark. Till then, one of the two pilots had been rescued alive. He was identified as Shamsu Uddin, 25, from Jamalpur.
The military's public relations department (ISPR) said an Air Force helicopter had flown the rescued pilot to Dhaka. He was undergoing treatment in Dhaka Combined Military Hospital.
Earlier, Sirajganj police superintendent Mosharraf Hossain told bdnews24.com: "The divers recovered some shoes, bags and a few parts of the plane including a wheel, a headphone of the plane's radio."
A 10-man army team from Ghatail, supported by naval and fire service units, have been at the scene of the crash to assist rescue operations.
The police and fire service divers are jointly working for recovery of the aircraft.
The private flying club plane had set off for Rajshahi from Dhaka at around 9.35am and crashed into Jamuna rive near Omarpur under Chouhali Upazila in Sirajganj at around 11:40am Saturday.
