Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday consoled the family members of the deceased persons killed in the mayhem by BNP-Jamaat terrorists taking the advantages of the recent quota reform movement as they met her at her official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka, report agencies.
Family members of deceased Abu Sayeed, an English Department student of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) along with 33 other families came to the premier's official residence as Sheikh Hasina handed over savings certificates and cash to them as assistance.
All of the deceased persons' family members burst into tears after seeing the prime minister.
As members of the deceased persons' families one by one went to Sheikh Hasina, they broke down in tears.
The premier also failed to hold her emotion and tears rolling down her cheek.
The teary-eyed prime minister consoled the victims' family members, saying, "Look at me, I am living with so much pain".
Mentioning that she was beside them, Sheikh Hasina said she was also bearing the pain of losing near and dear ones like them.
"So, I understand your pain," she added.
"It's my misery that I have to see your tears," she continued.
At that time, a heart-rending scene took place in the Ganabhaban.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan were present, while Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Secretary Mohammad Salahuddin moderated the event.
Abu Sayeed's father Makbul Hossain, mother Monwara Begum, and other relatives arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday from Rangpur and came to Ganabhaban.
On July 16, Abu Sayeed, a 12th batch English department student at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) died during the students quota reform movement in Rangpur.
Earlier on July 26, the BRUR administration provided financial assistance to the family of deceased Abu Sayeed.
A delegation from the university handed over a cheque of Taka 750,000 to his parents in Pirganj, Rangpur.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital at Shahbagh and Central Police Hospital at Rajarbagh in the capital to see the injured victims of the recent countrywide mayhem.
She went to the police hospital at 5:00pm and later visited BSMMU and inquired about the condition of the injured who are now undergoing treatment in the hospitals after being attacked during the student movement for reform of quotas in public service.
The premier gave necessary instructions to the hospital authorities for proper treatment of the victims.
BSMMU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Deen Mohd Noorul Huq and BSMMU Hospital Director Brig. Gen. Dr Md Rezaur Rahman apprised the PM of the measures taken for treatment of the injured people.
Sheikh Helal, MP, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, PM's Principal Secretary M Tofazzel Hossain Miah, PM's Press Secretary Md Nayeemul Islam Khan, PM's Personal Physician Prof Dr ABM Abdullah and Home Minister Asaduzzzaman Khan, among others, were present at the BSMMU Hospital and the Central Police Hospital.
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday and National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) on Saturday to inspect the violence victims.
She also assured them of proper treatments and wished for their early recovery.
Besides, the prime minister visited the vandalised metro rail station at Mirpur 10 in the capital on Thursday, Bangladesh Television (BTV) Bhaban at Rampura on Friday and violence-ravaged Setu Bhaban and Department of Disaster Management building and toll plaza of the Elevated Expressway at Mohakhali on Saturday.
