PM directs authorities to act on water, power crises

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sunday directed the power division and the WASA to play an effective role in reducing sufferings of the people due to the ongoing water and power crises, reports BSS.
The Prime Minister gave the directive at a meeting with the power secretary, the chairman of Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), the managing director of the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) and the managing director of Dhaka Electricity Supply Company (DESCO) at her office.
Sheikh Hasina after returning home from Saudi Arabia, summoned the officials concerned to her office and discussed how to solve the water and power crises in the city.
During the meeting, she asked them to inform the people about load-shedding in the areas concerned through Betar, TV, newspapers and loud speakers in advance and directed the power division to supply electricity as per requirement of WASA so that it could supply water after a certain gap.
She also asked the WASA authorities to maintain water supply during peak hours through its own generator and taking steps to install new water pipes instead of old.
The Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to complete the work of Syedabad Water Treatment Plant Phase-2 and the Pagla Water Treatment Plant within the shortest possible time.
She also asked the power division to take necessary steps to divert power supply to the city areas from the areas where paddy harvesting has started.
Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Mollah Wahiduzzaman was present in the meeting.
