PM Hasina interacts with Charles

London, May 05 (UNB): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the Commonwealth Leaders' Event in London on Friday afternoon.

The event started at 2:00 pm local time (7:00 pm Bangladesh time) at Marlborough House of the Commonwealth Secretariat at Pall Mall.

At the event, Hasina had interaction with King Charles III, head of the Commonwealth, at Delegate's Lounge.

She was scheduled to join the Commonwealth joint family photo session in the Garden of Marlborough House.

Hasina was also expected to attend the Commonwealth leaders' closed discussion at the Main Conference Room with Rwandan President and Commonwealth Chair in Office Paul Kagame in the chair.

In the evening, she was scheduled to join the King's reception for heads of state and government, and overseas representatives at Buckingham Palace in advance of the coronation of the king and the queen consort at Westminster Abbey today (Saturday).

Later, Prof Payam Akhavan called on the premier in the bilateral room of Claridge's Hotel.

Prof Akhavan is a professor of international law and a senior fellow at Massey College, University of Toronto, a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, and former legal adviser, Office of the Prosecutor, International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia.

Hasina arrived in London on an official visit to the UK from Washington early Friday to attend the coronation.

She represented Bangladesh at the ceremony.

Charles has been the 40th reigning monarch crowned there since 1066.

TALKS WITH SUNAK

Sheikh Hasina was also likely to hold a bilateral meeting with British premier Rishi Sunak on Friday.

Foreign ministry sources said the two leaders might hold the talks in the bilateral meeting room of Marlborough House.

This will be the British leader's first meeting with Hasina after he took office on 25 October 2022.

Hasina is in London on the third and final leg of a three-nation official tour that earlier took her to Japan and the US.

She is expected to return home on May 09, concluding her 15-day visit.
