President Barack Obama
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday said a group of people sometime are involved in creating unnecessary load shedding and disrupting smooth supply of water intentionally for financial benefit and also to tarnish image of a popular government, reports BSS.
"Unnecessary load shedding is being created even during the "Azan" (prayer) time to create resentment against the government," she said while inaugurating the long-awaited Expanded Bijoy Sarani and Tejgaon Overpass in the capital Tuesday morning.
Sheikh Hasina said many a times these elements keep water line stopped and tell people that they can not ensure supply of water due to scarcity of underground water, compelling the people to buy water spending extra money.
The Prime Minister said some people have so far been nabbed in connection with their involvement in the conspiracy of creating unnecessary crisis of water and power in the country.
Calling upon all concerned to remain vigilant against any conspiracy to make artificial crisis of power and water, she said stern action would be taken against those found guilty of such crimes against the innocent humanity.
Presided over by Housing and Public Works Secretary M A Hannan, the inaugural function was also addressed by State Minister for Housing and Public Works Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan and Chairman of Rajuk Engineer Nurul Huda.
The Prime Minister said steps were taken much earlier to construct the link road. But, it was not possible to implement the project as a certain government allowed a company to construct a high rise building on the cardinal point of the road.
She said her previous Awami League government after assuming office in 1996 did not give permission for any building on this site, rather felt the necessity of constructing the road. Later, the past caretaker government took initiative to construct the road demolishing the controversial building.
Referring to the present gas and electricity crisis, the Prime Minister said her present government inherited the problems from the past BNP-Jamaat alliance government, which did not take any initiative to produce a single megawatt of power and increase gas exploration during its tenure.
