PM to attend WEF meeting in Davos

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on a special invitation as Bangladesh is set to get focus in the world's prestigious forum.

The forum, best known for its annual meeting in Davos-Klosters during the last four decades, will be attended by the world's top leaders during January 17-21.

Sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Bangladesh Prime Minister is going to attend the meeting on invitation of the forum which has  recognised the country's significant economic growth.

They said the forum is likely to open up the country's scope to work in global, regional and industrial sectors.

It is a platform of public-private partnership to shape global, regional and industrial growth, said an official adding that the annual meeting gives an idea of world's economic trends in a year as it is held always at the beginning of every year. According to the official website, the 47th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting aims to imbue leaders from all walks of life to achieve common goals and drive new initiatives.

The objective in Davos is to engage these communities to advance multiple agendas --global, international security, economic, regional and national, business and industrial.

It also deals with future agenda to share ideas, innovations and discoveries that will reshape global systems by engaging those at the vanguard of change from fields such as arts, media, medicine, science and technology, as well as the next generation of future leaders.

This year, top leaders of 30 countries have confirmed their attendance while more than 1,000 have been registered, the MoFA sources said.

The forum meeting and its other activities and initiatives are distinguished by the active participation of government, business and civil society figures.

The Forum engages the most experienced and the most promising, all working together in the collaborative and collegial 'Spirit of Davos'.
