PM to talk power situation with officials today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will discuss today (Thursday) the country's overall electricity generation situation and future programmes with the top officials of power ministry and state-owned power entities.
From Thursday's meeting the PM, who is also the minister for power and energy, is expected to ask the state-owned power distribution entities for maintaining a fresh schedule for load shedding to ease public sufferings, a senior power ministry official said.
The PM might also provide direction to the government officials for expediting power sector development works, he added.
She would also discuss the country's overall electricity transmission system across the country.
Power secretary Md Abul Kalam will give a presentation before the PM elaborating the country's overall electricity supply and demand situation at the meeting.
Currently the city dwellers are experiencing two-hour loadshedding following supply of power for one hour.
Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC), however, introduced one-hour load shedding from 12 pm - 7 am only for the capital from Monday.
Country's overall electricity generation is now hovering around 3,900 megawatts against the demand for over 6,000 mw.
