Positivity rate above 5pc

The Covid-19 test positivity rate exceeded 5.0-per cent mark in Bangladesh on Thursday as the virus continues to spread considerably in recent times.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported the Covid-19 infection rate at 5.76 per cent on the day while the rate marinated below 1.0 per cent for more than couple of months until 6th of this month, according to the DGHS data.
The daily Covid-19 cases also rose to 357 during the last 24 hours until 8:0pm on Thursday against the previous day's 232, the official figures showed.
However, like previous days zero fatality was reported in the country on the day.
With the latest daily counts, total death toll from coronavirus reached 29,131 since the virus was first detected in Bangladesh in March 2020.
A total of 6,200 samples were tested, including antigen-based rapid tests, while 6,223 samples were collected across the country during the last 24 hours.
However, 114 more people had recovered from the Covid-19 during the last 24-hour reporting time.
The rate of recovery from the coronavirus disease was reported at 97.47 per cent on the day.
On the other hand, the rate of fatalities from Covid-19 remained static at 1.59 per cent.
According to the DGHS data, the total Covid-19 caseloads crossed 1.954 million and more than 1.90 million of them recovered in the country. However, over 14.20 million samples have been tested in the country so far.
Globally, over 537.35 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 6.31 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
Globally the overall number of Covid cases is now approaching 542 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
