The prices of powdered milk have increased by nearly Tk 70 a kilogramme (kg) in the local market in recent weeks. Importers blamed the rise in its prices in the international market for the commodity becoming costlier in the local market.
The importers said the consumption of milk and dairy products in China has grown significantly over the past few years leading to the supply crunch and price hike of the same in other countries.
According to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), the prices of powdered milk of Marks, the market leader, have increased by 10 per cent over the last one month.
They, however, hinted that prices of powdered milk may fall from August onwards when summer will begin in most of the milk
