Considering the daily production rate of 2290mmcf per day, the country's present gas reserves can be used for the next 10 years, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu told parliament Thursday.
Responding to a question of lawmaker Kazim Uddin Ahmed, he said to meet the deficit the government is importing LNG and at present 3000mmcf gas is being supplied across the country.
He said that the total gas reserves of the country are 40.43 trillion cubic meter of which 28.76 trillion cubic meter can be extracted.
Responding to a question of lawmaker Mohammad Ebadul Karim, the state minister said that the country produces 2200mmcf gas daily on average against 2750mmcf capacity.
"The government plans to raise the share of clean energy to 40 per cent of total power generation by 2041," he told the lawmakers about ways to meet fuel demand.
He said efforts are underway across the world to generate power through mixing hydrogen and natural gas and Bangladesh is also conducting research in this regard.
