Prof Yunus for ensuring zero unemployment, zero poverty


Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus urged all on Thursday to keep in mind the welfare of all human beings while executing any development project.
He also emphasised the need for ensuring three zeroes -- zero unemployment, zero poverty and zero net carbon emission.
Prof Yunus was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day programme marking the Social Business Day 2018 at the Infosys Electronic City Campus in Bangalore.
He said technology is advancing fast and might beat human intelligence by this century.
He suggested that the global leaders and think-tanks should regulate the technological advancement.
Referring to the global mania for achieving fast economic growth, he warned, "If you grow fast, you can also fall fast."
Emmanuel Faber, global CEO, Danone, and Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, Managing Director, Narayana Hrudayalaya, India, presented keynote papers at the function.
Over 1200 delegates from 42 countries are taking part in the two-day programme.
Dignitaries, eminent academics and leading practitioners joined various sessions of the programme.
Dr. Devi Shetty said the global health market size is nearly US$8.0 trillion, which is even much higher than the IT (information technology) market ($3.0 trillion).
But only 20 per cent of world population get decent healthcare, he added.
The Social Business Day 2018 is aimed at sharing experiences and ideas and also working on plans to create social businesses that tackle the most pressing problems of society.
BNP Paribas, Tata Steel, Amity University, Round Glass, Kerala-based Microcredit Initiative of Grameen (MIG) and Nishith Desai Associates have extended their support to the Yunus Centre of Bangladesh in organising the event.
Zarina Screwvala, founder and director of Swades Foundation, Anil K Gupta, founder of Sristi, Shankar Man Shrestha, chairman of the Centre for Self-help Development (CSD), and Corazon Henares, consultant at Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation, spoke on the first day of the programme.
Suraj Kumar, chief mentor of Neeti Foundation, K Paul Thomas, founder and director of ESAF Small Finance Bank, Arun Patil, Vice Chancellor of Amity University, Rajasthan, Yuka Kobayashi, CEO of Yunus Yoshimoto Social Action Company and Lakshmi Pratury, founder and CEO of INK, also spoke.
The theme of the Social Business Day 2018 is 'A World of Three Zeros: Zero Poverty, Zero Unemployment, Zero Net Carbon Emissions'.
There will be a number of plenary sessions and panel discussions on the second day of the event today (Friday).
