Private car owners will have to furnish detailed information in a prescribed form for payment of newly imposed tax determined on the basis of engine capacity of each car, the revenue board said Thursday.
Car owners will have to furnish nine types of information in that form including name, permanent and present address, TIN, tax circle, engine capacity, amount of paid tax.
They have to submit the form with bank draft/pay order as there is no scope to furnish detailed information in those payment documents, officials said.
Tax officials will be able to identify the car owners in future, they said.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Thursday issued an order to all of its circle offices clarifying the income tax payment and bank draft or pay order collection system of private car owners.
The revenue board has issued the order after it found widespread confusions over payment of specific amount of car tax among the tax officials, BRTA and car owners.
In the current fiscal, the government has introduced the new measure to mobilize tax from private owners of car, jeep and microbus that used to go untaxed before.
Car owners will pay the tax at the time of registration or obtaining fitness certificates in their respective tax circle or Bangladesh Road Transport Authority office. The paid tax will be adjusted with the actual payable tax later.
The NBR already set up two service-booths in Dhaka and Chittagong BRTA office for collecting income tax from car owners.
The NBR has formed four cluster tax zones, comprising three tax offices, for Dhaka and Chittagong. The board will assign a tax inspector from next month (August 2) for each cluster tax zones to collect the taxes from car owners.
Car owners living outside Dhaka and Chittagong will pay the car tax in their respective tax zones, the NBR order said.
People using car up to 1500 cc will have to pay Tk 3000 as advance income tax in a year, Tk 4000 for 2000 cc and Tk 7000 for car above 2000 cc.
People will have to pay tax amounting to Tk 4000 for jeep up to 2800 cc and Tk 8000 for above 2800 cc.
For microbus, tax rates will be fixed at Tk 3000 a year.
Tax officials said the revenue board will be able to collect additional Tk 1.50 billion revenue due to imposition of the new measure.
The government has re-introduced the tax, which was withdrawn in 2002 last, in the current fiscal as it has found that 30 per cent unidentified TIN's were used at the time of private car registration.
