Qatar pledges $100m to save Buriganga

Qatar has pledged 100 million US dollars in assistance to rejuvenate the flow of the Buriganga by diverting water from the Jamuna. Chief of Planning of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan said an eight-member delegation from Qatar led by International Relations Minister Mohammad Al Atiyah made the commitment in a meeting with a Bangladesh delegation. A total of 163 kilometres are needed to be excavated to bring clean water into the Buriganga from the Jamuna through the Dhaleshwari, Puling, Bangshi and Turag rivers. — BSS
