Rain disrupts normal life, routine

Continuous rain influenced by cyclonic storm Michaung disrupted normal life and routine activities in Dhaka and other parts of the country on Thursday.

Office-goers and individuals returning from work faced difficulties due to the continuous day-long downpour. Those most affected were daily wage earners and individuals with low incomes.

Cyclone Michaung hit the coast areas of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

However, Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told the FE that no rainfall may take place in most parts of the country today (Friday).

Light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at Chattogram division, he added.

Dhaka witnessed 44 mm heavy rainfall until 6pm on Thursday while Jashore recorded the highest 96 mm rainfall on the day, according to the met office.

The BMD in its 24-hour forecast starting from 9 am on Friday said light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Chattogram & Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Mymensingh & Dhaka divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Chattogram & Sylhet divisions.

Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it said.

Night temperature may fall by (1-2)°C and day temperature may rise slightly over the country.
