Results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Dakhil and SSC Vocational examinations were published Thursday with a pass percentage of 72.18 and 52,500 GPA-5 scorers.
This is a record in terms of both pass percentage and obtaining GPA-5 since the Grade Point Average (GPA) system was initiated in 2001.
Last year 58.36 per cent students came out successful. Of them, 32,646 were GPA-5 scorers.
A total of 726,563 examinees out of 1,006,569 passed the exams this year with the pass percentage rising by 13.82 per cent compared to the 58.36 per cent of last year. Of the successful students, 396,489 are male and 330,074 are female.
Education Adviser Hussain Zillur Rahman Thursday presented the results in detail before journalists at a press briefing at the Education Ministry, where chairmen of the nine education boards and Education Secretary Momtazul Islam were present.
Talking to newsmen, the Education Adviser said no admission test would be held for admission to educational institutions at the higher secondary level as students would be admitted on the basis of their results in the SSC exams.
In reply to a query, the Education Adviser said the monthly pay order (MPO) of 91 institutions, from which not a single student could pass, will remain suspended until they reverse their trend.
A total of 526,576 candidates, out of 743,609, passed the SSC exams under the seven general education boards with a pass percentage of 70.81 against 54.80 per cent in 2007.
Of the seven general education boards, Dhaka Board is in the top position in terms of pass percentage. A total of 77.81 per cent students came out successful under Dhaka Board, 64.89 per cent under Rajshahi Board, 73 per cent under Comilla Board, 71.43 per cent under Jessore Board, 72.62 per cent under Chittagong Board, 68.77 per cent under Barisal Board and 53.88 per cent under Sylhet Board.
On the other hand, the Madrasah Education Board has topped the list of all other boards in terms of pass percentage. A total of 148,186 students, out of 180,585, passed the Dakhil exam under the Madrasah Education Board with a pass percentage of 82.06.
A total of 82,375 students took part in the exam under the Technical Education Board (TEB). Of them, 51,801 examinees fared well with the pass percentage hitting 62.88 per cent.

A total of 10,562 students obtained GPA-5 under the Madrasah Board and 57 under the TEB.
On the other hand, around half the 52,500 GPA-5 scorers--32,690 male and 19,810 female--will not get the chance to get admitted to reputed educational institutions, particularly in colleges of Dhaka, due to seat crisis, though about 1.6 million seats are vacant in the colleges across the country.
