The single-day death toll from dengue hit a new high of 13 on Tuesday as the mosquito-borne fever continued unabated across the country.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the dengue death rate is five-year high this year.
With Tuesday's mortalities, the total fatalities climbed to 127, disclosed the DGHS.
In another development, 1,533 new dengue cases throughout the country were hospitalised in the last 24 hours ending at 8:00 am on Tuesday.
Of the figures, 789 were from Dhaka.
With the latest tally, the total dengue cases rose to 24,000, including Dhaka's 15,476, reported the DGHS.
A total of 5,569 people were being treated in hospitals across the country. Of them, 3,443 were from Dhaka.
Of the total admitted, 18,304 patients made recovery and returned home, including Dhaka's 11,937 cases.
As many as 281 people died due to dengue last year, the highest in the history of the country.
However, experts fear that the number of deaths may increase as dengue has taken a terrible turn.
They apprehend that the situation may worsen in August and September compared to July as the rainy season came late this year.
