Records galore in SSC results

Results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations have breached all the previous records registering a 91.34 per cent pass rate which is 2.31 per cent higher compared to that of the last year.

The examinees this year also maintained the record trends in all measuring benchmarks including highest grade point average (GPA)-5 despite political turmoil during the examinations.

The ministry of education (MoE) published the results Saturday after 58 days of the completion of the examinations.

In addition, the number of highest grade point holding students also went up by 51,050 students as this year some 142,276 students achieved the uppermost marks, statistics revealed.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid formally unveiled the results at a press conference at the secretariat building on the day. Earlier in the morning, the minister handed over the result sheets to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gonobhaban.

This year, some 1,426,923 students appeared in the country's secondary level public examinations, of whom 1,303,331 came out successful. Male students took the lead by 1.03 per cent over the female ones constituting 91.84 per cent and 90.81 per cent respectively.

As per the analysis of the results in terms of the pass rate, Rajshahi Education Board topped the ten education boards with 96.34 per cent, followed by Dhaka Board with 93.94 per cent, Dinajpur Board 93.26 per cent, Jessore Board 92.19 per cent, Chittagong Board 91.40 per cent, Comilla Board 89.92 per cent, Sylhet Board 89.23 per cent and Madrasah Board 89.25 per cent.

A total of 1,087,870 students appeared under the eight general education boards, of whom 1,008,174 came out successful with a combined pass rate of 92.67 per cent and some 122,313 secured the highest marks while the number was 77,381 last year.

Under the Madrasah Board, a total of 236,630 students appeared of whom 211,203 cleared the examinations with a separate pass rate of 89.25 per cent and 14,013 students got A+ marks while the number was 9,673 previously.

Some 102,423 students took part under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board of whom 83,954 passed the test with 5,950 holding GPA-5.

This year, science students peaked among the three groups with a pass rate of 96 per cent followed by Business Studies Group with 94.06 per cent and Humanities Group with 89.29 per cent.

Like other measuring standards, this year the number of institutions having hundred per cent pass rate also soared from 5,092 to 6,210. The statistics showed students did better in the hard subjects like English, Mathematics and Science ones.

Under the Dhaka Board, 98.88 per cent students cleared the English subject, 98 per cent Mathematics, 99.27 per cent Physics and 97.79 per cent Chemistry.

Rajuk Uttara Model College topped the list of best 20 schools under the Dhaka Education Board followed by Ideal School and College and Viqarunnisa Noon School.

Under the Comilla Education Board, Comilla Zilla School secured first position followed by Feni Girls' Cadet College and Comilla Cadet College, while Bogra Cantonment Public School and College topped the list under the Bogra Education Board followed by Bogra Govt Girls' High School and Bogra Zilla School.   

Jhenidah Cadet College positioned first, Military Collegiate School Khulna second and Govt Coronation Secondary Girls' School third under the Jessore Board, while Collegiate School, Chittagong placed first under the Chittagong Board followed by Bangladesh Mohila Samiti Girls' High School and College, Chittagong and Dr Khastagir Govt Girls' High School Chittagong.

Under the Barisal Education Board, Barisal Cadet College stood first, Barisal Govt Girls' High School second and Barisal Zilla School third. Under the Sylhet Board, Sylhet Cadet College topped the list of best institutions followed by Blue Bird High School and Jalalabad Cant Public School and College. Cantonment Public School and College topped the list in Rangpur Board followed by Rangpur Zilla School and Thakurgaon Govt Boys' High School.

Jhalakathi NS Kamil Madrasah positioned first under the Madrasah Education Board followed by Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasah and Sarsina Darussunnat Kamil Madrasah. UCEP Mohsin Technical School, Khulna got the top position under the Technical Education Board while UCEP Dhaka was second and AK Khan UCEP Technical School, Chittagong third.
