Rejoinder, FE’s reply

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL) has sent a rejoinder to a news item published in the January 17, 2018 issue of The Financial Express under the headline '79 source points of illegal gas connection remain untouched'.
In a rejoinder issued by the TGTDCL Acting General Manager (Public Relations) Gholam Mostofa on Wednesday last said; "…It (the report) is controversial and not true."
The article headline and published news were not showing right scenario, effort and course of actions taken against illegal gas use, it said.
The statement said removal of illegal gas distribution lines and disconnection programme is conducted regularly in presence of Executive Magistrate and law enforcement agency personnel and is monitored by Central Taskforce Committee Headed by Additional Secretary, Energy & Mineral Resources Division, District and Upazila Committee.
It said till now 617 programmes were conducted at 1,151 spots to remove approximately 1,508 kilometres of illegal gas distribution lines and 265 GDs and 84 cases filed relevant to illegal gas line use from February 2014. The company's effort to remove illegal remaining gas line continues, it added.
FE's reply:
In the report the FE highlighted 79 untouched source points of illegal gas connections in Dhaka, which was also mentioned by the TGTDCL in its rejoinder.
"It is to be mentioned that 79 spots in Dhaka Metro Area has been detected by Zone officers where illegal lines will be removed by Titas Gas and mobile courts in due time," it said.
The TGTDCL gave data of the last four years since 2014 regarding their drives against illegal gas connections but it did not contest the data on last three years' drives that was mentioned in the FE report.
