CHITTAGONG, June 26: Inter-district bus owners in Chittagong have urged the government to urgently repair potholes, caused by recent rainfall and inclement weather, on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, as the potholes have made plying vehicles difficult and dangerous.
In a statement, Kafil Uddin Ahmed, general secretary of Inter District Bus Owners Association Chittagong, mentioned that the holes on the important highway need to be repaired immediately, as these pose a threat to operating long-route buses from Chittagong to other districts.
Journey on the highway has become a time-taking one due to its four-laning and ongoing repair works that have left 94 kilometres of the highway, from Chittagong City Gate to Feni Mohipal, in a dilapidated condition, he mentioned.
Many vehicles plying on that part of the highway are experiencing accidents and sometimes becoming inoperative, causing severe gridlock. For which, some inter-district journeys are taking 7-8 hours time instead of usual 3-4 hours.
As a result, the passengers are suffering a lot and the bus owners are also facing a substantial financial loss in operating their vehicles, he further said.
