KERANIGANJ, Aug 28 (UNB): Angry mob put blockade on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway near the Buriganga Bridge in Hasnabad area Friday demanding smooth supply of electricity and gas in the area.
Hundreds of people took position on the busy highway after Jum'a prayers at about 3:00pm disrupting traffic for about three hours.
Chase and counter-chase took place between the protestors and the police when the law-enforcers tried to disperse them.
At least 10 people, including three policemen, were injured during the melee.
The unruly mob pelted brickbats partially damaging six buses.
Later, three platoons of the law-enforcers from Dhaka rushed to the spot and quelled the trouble.
The power-hungry people removed the barricade at 6:00pm after the authorities concerned assured them of meeting their demands.
While going back home, they also attacked a factory and beat up its three employees and damaged three vehicles on the highway and the windowpanes of a nearby mosque.
Local people have been suffering for long because of frequent load shedding and shortage of gas supply in the area.
