Road crash kills 25 in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Apr 9 (Agencies): At least 25 people were killed (today) Thursday in a fatal road accident in Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur.
A Barisal-bound bus of Sonartari Paribahan rammed into a number of trees near Koidubi in Bhanga Upazila at around 1:15 am on the day on the Barisal-Dhaka highway.
The deceased include 20 men and five women.
Among the injured, one died on the way to hospital. The other 24 injured passengers were admitted to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex and Faridpur Medical College Hospital where two others succumbed to their injuries.
Belal Hossain, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Bhanga highway police, suspected that reckless driving might have caused the accident.
Shaheen Miah, an injured victim undergoing treatment at the Faridpur Medical College Hospital, said, "We repeatedly requested the driver to drive slowly, but he didn't pay heed to our request… he drove the bus recklessly instead."
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at the loss of lives in the deadly road accident.
