Awami League (AL) presidium member Motia Chowdhury termed Sunday's Election Commission (EC)-announced roadmap incomplete as she alleged it failed to fulfill people's desire, reports UNB.
"The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) today announced the roadmap to the national polls, but there are uncertainty and ambiguity in every thing," she said at his residence in her reaction over the EC plan of action.
CEC ATM Shamsul Huda Sunday announced a four-phase roadmap to the national elections, stating that the general election would be held sometime between October and December next year.
The AL leader said, "The whole process is so slow and the EC is ignoring the demands of our movement although this EC is the fruit of our movement."
She said they want a free and fair election as soon as possible as her party never thinks of going to power through zigzag path.
Motia observed the CEC didn't say anything about transparent ballot box, a demand of the AL-led 14-party combine.
She aired doubt about preparation of electoral roll within October of the next year. In this context, she cited the EC-prepared voters' list under a model project in Sripur that contains many defects.
"Morning shows the day…the pilot project of Sripur proved it would not be possible for the EC to make an appropriate voter list of 140 million (14 crore) people within October," the AL leader observed.
Referring to CEC's hope about lifting ban on indoor politics before the planned dialogue with the political parties from next September to November on electoral reforms, Moita again expressed doubt about withdrawal of the embargo on politics.
"The CEC had told about lifting the ban on indoor politics earlier also, but it was not done. So, I have doubt this time too," she told the reporters.
