Square Group chairman Samson H Chowdhury alleged that an income tax official has harassed him and his family members, as he did not entertain undue demand of the taxman.
Mr Samson disclosed this Thursday at a seminar in the city on good governance for economic growth organised by International Business Forum of Bangladesh and attended by HT Imam, adviser to the prime minister, among others.
"I am disclosing this in front of everybody-if they can harass me, what happens to the mass people," he said without disclosing the name of the official concerned.
"He (the tax official) approached me to give some business to his relative, but as we could not provide him that he increased my and other family members' income tax figures two-folds," he said.
Mr Samson and his children are one of the highest taxpayers in the country.
When Mr Imam enquired whether the income tax official was transferred or not.
Mr Samson said smiling, "No, he was promoted."
